COCOABEAN HITS THE SUNDAY TIMES!

When Mary Pratt implemented an ambitious plan to grow her recruitment firm, Cocoabean, the hardest part was learning to stand back and let her team get on with the day-to-day running of the business.
“I started the company from my spare room with a laptop and a pay-as-you-go phone. I’m a perfectionist, so it has been really hard to let other people get on with things,” she said.
As sales rose from £360,000 in the first year to an expected £1.5m in the third year, Pratt recognised she would have to bring in a strong management team to keep the business growing.

Free Business Advice via web tv
Web professionals David Jenkins and John Psaras are expecting that a new corporate advice website will revolutionise business for millions of individuals. Developed by the West Midlands based pair as a result of psychological research into learning techniques, www.guruonline.tv is a video based information portal featuring free guidance in all areas of business.
Due to launch early next year, guruonline already features over three thousand short films from a vast range of industry experts answering questions on topics specifically for businesses. The aim is that the website will act as a one-stop shop for professionals seeking free impartial advice on all areas of industry.
Advice proffered ranges from sensitive legal issues and financial advice to marketing and technical information, all formatted in easy to view bite-size chunks.
Developed out of a growing need for individuals in business to be able to access relevant information easily, guruonline is the result of extensive research into web viewing patterns. Through extensive trialling, David and John discovered that users will spend more time on a website that features video rather than just text or animation. It was found that users retain more information from short video’s, making it the perfect medium for knowledge transfer via the web.
Currently, featured experts include individuals from the Academy of Chief Executives offering a wide range of advice on subjects such as business development, personal development and team work. NatWest Bank talks about franchising, whilst Aston Business School answers queries on leadership and management techniques. Other featured organisations include the RNID talking about the requirements and rights of hearing impaired individuals in the workplace, a timely subject since the enforcement of the Disability Discrimination Act in 2006, the Forum of Private Business and Henley Management College.
A further 2,000 videos will be added in time for the launch, with new contributors such as the Open University OpenLearn resources, being added each week.
According to David Jenkins; “Guruonline is ideal for companies in all sectors, from start ups to multi-nationals and offers impartial advice relevant to all departments. It also offers users the benefit of quality independent advice, with no selling, to address common business issues, whilst giving them the choice to pursue further professional advice from relevant featured companies.”
Visit www.guruoline.tv for a sneak preview of the beta broadband service prior to its full launch on dual Digital TV and broadband platforms in 2008. |

Annabel Gets Set for Charity Trek
Local businesswoman Annabel Macquarie will be taking on the challenge of a lifetime later this year when she undertakes a gruelling trek along the Great Wall of China.
Annabel, who is operations director of Telford based American motorhome business, Travelworld RV, is taking the challenge in October to help raise funds for Scope.
The five day trek will take her along some of the most demanding terrain in the world, through mountainous trails and remote villages before finally ending up in Beijing.
Luckily Annabel, who is a mother of three, is a fitness fanatic and has been training hard to ensure she is ready for the challenge. “My main concern is that I will not be fit enough, especially as I am due to have an operation on a torn cartilage just a few months before the trek. However, I am busy training to make sure that I will be ready.”
Annabel has committed to raise £2,800 for the charity Scope, she says; “I have never done anything like this before, but it seemed like a great way to raise money for a very worthwhile charity. I am very lucky to have three fit and healthy children, but many parents are not so lucky. A charity like Scope can make a real difference to the families of Cerebal Palsy sufferers.” |

Travelworlds Limited Edition Euro Coaches
The recent clampdown by the DVLA on the exterior dimensions of USRV’s has resulted in some confusing times for purchasers and potential purchasers of American RV’s. However, Travelworld RV, the leading supplier of American Motorhomes in the UK, has come up with a unique way of ensuring that its customers have nothing to worry about.
Developed alongside Monaco Coaches, Travelworld RV now has an exclusive range of exciting new Euro models that uphold all of the DVLA’s new laws.
With the construction and use regulations stating that the overall size of any vehicle on the road must be no more than 2.55m wide and 12m in length, Travelworld has incorporated some 28 technical and engineering modifications to the products. Thus safeguarding customers from future legal problems and ensuring that the models comply with the law.
All slide outs have been redesigned to ensure that there no leakage problems as a result of not having topper awnings fitted. Exterior handles, catches, vents, side cameras and many other protruding items have been removed, replaced or repositioned.
The result is Travelworlds exclusive Euro Coaches, which according to sales director, Ross Edwards, “are even more waterproof, slicker looking and some nine inches narrower, a bonus in tight corners and when trying to negotiate French toll booths!”
The new range of exclusive Travelworld RV Euro Coaches can be seen at Travelworld’s showroom in Telford, Shropshire. |

From massive to minute works of art
Giclée Fine Art has recently undertaken both its largest, and smallest printing commissions, in terms of physical size that is…
The company, which is one of the UK’s leading professional digital fine art printmakers, has recently been commissioned by a client for delivery to the Middle East, to produce a series of prints from an enormous original desert painting. The task required the use of sophisticated camera equipment to photograph each part of the original canvas and then painstaking computer reconstruction to fit each photograph together for the printing of five final prints. The largest print was over 3.6 metres in length and is the largest undertaken by Giclée Fine Art to date.
At the other end of the scale, Giclée is also currently putting together a series of prints for renowned artist Willard Wigan. Wigan produces the world’s smallest sculptures, many of them less than a third of the size of the eye of a needle. The artist has commissioned Giclée Fine Art to produce limited edition prints of his sculptures onto art paper. This has involved the use of highly technically advanced camera and microscope equipment to capture the detail and colour of the sculptures for reproduction onto paper. |
